2 Bucket System CarWash & Dry

After my earlier article on potential damages of outside car wash, it's best to DIY pampering our ride keeping it to the best state possible. For most folks, self car washing is just spraying away dirt with water and if insufficient a quick wipe with a rag or brush. I cringed when I see the same brush or towel used for wheels also similarly used for the paint. Please continue reading for the proper way to clean your car and ride as proper detailers and enthusiasts like us do!

For car detailers, washing the car correctly is just the 1st step of CLEANING the car preparing it for the 2nd stages of POLISHING before the  3rd stage of PROTECTING it with wax.

I will just cover the everyday stage of cleaning off the dirt and dust the proper way with a 2 bucket system. Besides learning the right techniques, having the proper tools are equally important.

1. Wash Mitt or Thick Microfiber towels for Shampoo
2. Car Shampoo
3. 2 large buckets
4. Grit guards (1 minimum 2 is best)
5. Big microfiber drying towel

I will not go into wheel cleaning but the concept is similar needing their own sets of wheel brush, towels and bucket to not cross contaminate. Key is to preserve the paint in it's best possible condition without further damaging it with improper cleaning. Car paint is damaged by contaminants be it gravel, sand or even dust if not removed totally during cleaning process.

Which is better? Hand or Machine Car Wash

How many times have you send your car to carwash or even supposedly car detailing centers. At first glance you may be impressed with how clean your car is or how shiny it is after "detailing". You may be thinking it's worth to spend your hard earned money pampering your cars as leave it to the professionals.

However if you look closely especially under a hot sun you may see your cars actual condition; full of scratches, swirls and holograms. Go outside take a look at your car paint and be honest. If it's minimum scratches congratulations your car detailing center is most probably legit and likely charged expensive accordingly. Do you see circular scratches or even holograms looking like 3D images floating in your paint, then it's damaged by improper use of rotary machine.

So, to answer the original question, NEITHER! Hand wash is better if they use CLEAN good quality microfiber towels instead of dirty rags .Machine car wash is definitely damaging as have to either use harsh chemicals or brushes to clean your car. To avoid further damage, it is much better to truly pamper your car by hand washing yourself and I will share with you the way to do it right in my next article. Do visit often and leave your comments.
